The Lion King — Jon Favreau, Disney, 2019 The first feature film world built entirely inside a computer. Working with director Jon Favreau, James Chinlund and his team designed and constructed a photorealistic African landscape from the ground up — grounded in extensive location research across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, but built entirely in virtual space. Using virtual reality for both scouting and shooting, the production broke new technology and tools throughout, riding the cutting edge of what the medium could do.
