The Fountain — Darren Aronofsky, 2006 The Fountain told its story across three distinct worlds — modern day, 15th century Spain and the New World, and a future space fantasy — each requiring its own visual identity while remaining bound together by a shared language. Weaving those three realities into a coherent whole was the central design challenge for production designer James Chinlund. His second collaboration with Aronofsky and his first experience working abroad, the production was shot almost entirely on stage in Montreal — the largest scale he had worked at to that point.
